This is My Marathon
A few of my friends like to run. They run 10Ks, half marathons, and this year it looks like they will be running full marathons. I look at them and think they are out of their minds. So much work, perseverance, and dedication for something you don’t have to do in life. It just doesnt make sense to me. But they report a “runner’s high” that probably can’t be explained to a non-runner. Likewise, many people don’t seem to understand my decision to birth naturally. Just talk to my mother who told me, “oh, just get a c-section. They put you to sleep and these days the scarring is so minimal its so easy and simple.” I have come to realize that not everyone will agree with my decision. I guess this quest has become my own investigation into reports that birthing can be “orgasmic.” I want to know if its true that the female body releases its highest level of oxytocin just after the release of a baby..that it is an unparalleled, inexplicable experience. I have to admit though, that this process has really taken me for a ride. I have spent a good 2-3 hours daily for the past 5 weeks in preparation. I do my Hypnobabies training, read books on natural birthing, and will continue to do so for the next 7 weeks until my baby is here. I am really beginning to realize this is not for everyone. That is why this is my marathon to run, and not anyone else’s.
