Through Hypnobabies and Ina May’s Guidebook to Childbirth, I learned that due dates are really guess dates. It should be obvious because medical staff calculate a due date based on your last period, which really isn’t the date of conception. In addition, Ina May mentions she’s helped Amish women who know for a fact, through birthing many children, that their gestation periods are 42 weeks, as opposed to the generally held belief of 40 weeks.
So my due date moved around a couple times after ultrasounds. (This was based on the fetus size). It first was early February then changed to late January. So my due date came and went. Everybody keeps asking if I’m going to get induced. I trust that my baby knows best when to come out, and I’m in no rush to chemically induce his arrival. The typical drug they would give me is Pitocin, which is essentially fake Oxytocin. Pitocin would cause unnatural contractions in my body that could potentially cause my labor pains to be much worse, often times leading to the need for an epidural, sometimes fetal distress, and ultimately a c-section.
However, I am getting pretty uncomfortable when I sleep and I’m not sure how much larger my belly can get! These stretch marks aren’t getting any smaller…
My midwifery has me taking some mild homeopathy medication to see if it will help induce labor. I noticed every time I take my homeopathy I feel a slight tightening in my belly. I’ve also be trying to walk around a bit more. Tomorrow I’m going to try out acupuncture. I heard it can help clear the body of anything that might be in the way of labor.
On a side note, tomorrow is my 3 year anniversary with my husband. Time has gone by so fast—I remember being super newlyweds thinking 3 years is so far away. Well, it’s here now, and I’m happy to report that I’m so much more in love with my hubs than when we first got married.
